The US Coast Guard (USCG) plans to award Credence Management Solutions a data center support services contract.
In a procurement notice, it said that it would limit competition to award a sole source task order for a portion of the existing Data Center Support Services (DCSS) to the incumbent contractor.
Credence is a government-focused IT services company.
The contract, which does not have a public pricing, covers 15 November, 2023 to 13 May, 2024. The previous six-month contract had a price ceiling of $2 million.
"Securing a six-month contract will ensure the continuity of vital DCSS, crucial for the completion of all security documentation necessary for the onboarding of US Coast Guard C5ISC civilian and military personnel," the notice states.
The USCG plans to move most workloads to a separate infrastructure management services contract, but the project has been delayed, and not all tasks will be able to transition immediately.
"This proposed six-month contract is a crucial step to ensure the government has adequate time to recompete and transition services to this new, longer-term contract," the notice states.
"This strategy will effectively mitigate the risk of any disruption in these mission critical services, which could have significant implications for national security."
The data center currently supports the IT systems used to process search and rescue response operations. "The DCSS, therefore, are indispensable in ensuring that our search planners can swiftly identify individuals in danger and ensure their safe retrieval," the notice states.
