CyrusOne is planning a new 90MW data center in Frankfurt, Germany

The recently-acquired company said this week it had purchased land in Hanau, to the east of Frankfurt, for the new facility known as Frankfurt V.

CyrusOne said the facility – due to be its fifth in Frankfurt – will have incoming power of 90MW and a critical power capacity of 63MW. Frankfurt V will deliver 18,000 sqm (193,000 sq ft) of technical space within two three-story buildings, each with a critical power capacity of 31.5MW.

Construction is planned to start in for Q2 2023, with the first 9MW phase of capacity due to be delivered in Q3 2024.

“Take-up in capacity by hyperscalers continues to drive significant demand for data center needs across Europe, resulting in near record levels of construction pipeline, particularly in Frankfurt,” said Matt Pullen, EVP and managing director Europe, CyrusOne. “CyrusOne has enjoyed remarkable success in the region and a fifth site in Frankfurt signals our experience in this market and our capability to consistently deliver mission-critical capacity and capabilities that our customers have come to depend on.”

The new data center is the first expansion announcement since the news broke that CyrusOne was being taken private. Last week Investment firm KKR and Global Infrastructure Partners announced that the two firms had acquired CyrusOne for $15 billion; the largest data center acquisition in history. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022; upon completion of the transaction, CyrusOne will be a privately held company wholly owned by KKR and GIP.

The same day saw American Tower confirm it was acquiring CoreSite, another publicly-listed data center Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) for $10.1 billion.
