Data center operator Digital Realty has purchased 18,000 sqare feet of technical space near the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia, to complement its neigboring 160,000 square feet facility.

ATL1, Digital Realty’s existing facility located at 56 Marietta Street, is the region’s biggest stand-alone data center.

The acquisition, ATL2, will be connected to ATL1 via high speed fiber and will provide further colocation space for the company’s customer base.

Digital Realty has spent approximately $22 million on the deal.

A prominent player on the wholesale data center market, Digital Realty began offering retail colocation services when it gained ownership of Telx in October 2015, followed by its acquisition of Telecity in 2016.

Today, the company owns more than 150 data centers spanning 26 million square feet, with 119 in North America, 30 in Europe, and seven in the Asia Pacific region.
