A drone attack in Russia targeting the country's Krasnodar Krai region has damaged a cell tower.
As reported by various Russian media outlets, the drone attacks caused fires at two oil depots overnight on July 6.
Multiple drone attacks were reported in the Eisk, Leningrad, and Pavlov communities of Krasnodar Krai.
State-controlled Russian publication RIA Novosti claimed on Telegram that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were behind the attacks.
Another outlet, Astra, also reported the attack, citing Russia's Defense Ministry.
"Minor damage to a cell phone tower was recorded as a result of falling debris. Also, a drone attack was repelled in the village of Pavlovskaya. After the UAV fragments fell, fuel storage tanks caught fire at the oil depot," reported Astra on Telegram.
"In the village of Leningradskaya, as a result of the UAV attack, a fuel tank caught fire. Operational and special services are working on the scene, putting out the fires. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties."
Kyiv Independent reported earlier today that Ukrainian drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) were behind the attack on Russian "Lukoil-Yugnefteprodukt."
The publication noted that Ukraine has targeted Russia's oil industry with drone attacks during the last few months.
The two countries have been locked in a war since 2014 before Russia stepped up a full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago.
Since Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, CSIS (Center for Strategic and International Studies) estimates that Ukraine's ICT infrastructure has been hit by more than $2 billion worth of damage.
The war has led to the destruction of more than 4,000 base stations across all operators, plus 60,000 kilometers of fiber optic lines, while 12.2 percent of households have lost access to mobile services.
In April, Ukrainian hackers, known as Blackjack, claimed to destroy a data center used by thousands of Russian businesses and its military.
The location of the data center was not disclosed but the hackers, which said they worked with the cyber department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed to destroy 300TB of data held on 400 virtual and 42 physical servers.
In December, Ukraine’s biggest mobile operator Kyivstar was hit by an attack that left millions of customers without network coverage. This breach was blamed on Russian hackers.
Last year DCD reported that Russia had inflicted $1.79 billion worth of damage on Ukraine’s telecoms infrastructure during the war.
