The hospital has migrated its Oracle Health Electronic Health Record (EHR) to OCI, and can now be accessed by more than 1,000 concurrent users across KCH Dubai's facilities.

Described as a "rapid migration," KCH Dubai has reportedly seen a reduction in the time taken to access patient information by 50 percent, a 20 percent reduction in reviewing patients' medical charts, and a 25 percent reduction in time spent in the EHR due to faster loading times.

Moving to the cloud has also provided the hospital network with a scalable foundation to simplify integrations and meet its goal of innovating in critical areas such as population health.

“With Oracle Health, we’ve seen substantial improvements in our clinical processes, including an increase in the system’s speed and responsiveness and a noticeable deduction in the time spent reviewing patient charts across various specialties,” said Kimberly Pierce, CEO of KCH Dubai. “Oracle’s cloud offering has the technological infrastructure we need to fully embrace future advancements in areas such as generative AI that will benefit our patients and how we deliver care while better supporting our practitioners.”

“The combined power of OCI and our EHR is enabling KCH Dubai physicians to be more productive, waste less time in medical records, and refocus more time on patient care,” said Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager, Oracle Health and Life Sciences. “Moreover, they have the comprehensive platform to continually be able to plug-in the technologies they need to solve their toughest challenges and be more adaptable, predictive, and responsive to evolving healthcare needs.”

KCH Dubai is also using Oracle's threat detection and monitoring, autonomous systems, and has access to a team of experts to help protect its networks. OCI will scale alongside KCH Dubai as it expands with new facilities and specialties.

The two organizations have an existing relationship, with KCH Dubai selecting Oracle Cerner on OCI via the Oracle Cloud Dubai Region to operate and manage its electronic medical records system in February 2023. That initial migration was also pegged to reduce KCH Dubai's IT spend and regain data center space at the facilities.

At the time, Romel Khalife, general manager, UAE and Kuwait at Oracle Cerner, said: “The project we are embarking on with King’s College Hospital London – Dubai is to move their on-premises, client-hosted technology stack onto the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in a PaaS model deployment. The same solutions along with the necessary software, management, and maintenance will come along with this as would be with remote hosting option.”

No details about the hospital's prior on-premise infrastructure were shared.

KCH Dubai operates a hospital as well as four outpatient clinics. Dubai Investments owns a 27 percent stake in the joint venture with Al Tayer Group and the UK-based Ashmore Group.

The joint venture was initiated in 2015, with it valued at the time at $200 million.
