Danish engineering group Danfoss has selected HPE GreenLake for SAP S/4HANA Cloud to be deployed in its data centers as part of the company's cloud journey.
HPE GreenLake for SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a joint offering from HPE and SAP and aims to bring SAP workloads to private cloud environments.
Danfoss first modernized its IT landscape with SAP S/HANA - a suite of integrated business applications in 2016. By deploying HPE GreenLake in Danfoss's data centers, the company will be able to use cloud computing and run its SAP workloads while remaining on-site in its energy-efficient facilities.
“We have selected RISE with SAP and HPE GreenLake not only to reap the benefits of investing in the most up-to-date digital solutions, but also to demonstrate that it is possible to optimize existing data centers operations while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions," said Sune Baastrup, CIO of Danfoss.
"Energy efficiency is not something we need to trade off against other important parameters, but rather it needs to be on an equal footing as a key parameter alongside other standard business priorities. This collaboration allows us to keep our data and applications in our own highly energy-efficient data centers and gives us the best of both worlds: the cloud advantages while keeping our data close.”
Danfoss and HPE have worked together for more than three decades.
As part of Danfoss's decarbonization commitment, the company is seeking to minimize its IT carbon footprint. It is working with HPE Services to develop modular data centers that will enable sustainable expansions and more location flexibility.
The company is already using heat reuse solutions at its HQ site in Nordborg, Denmark. At full build-out, the heat from Danfoss' data centers will be able to provide 25 percent of the heat supply for the company's 250,000 sqm (2.69m sq ft) manufacturing site.
HPE and Danfoss have also worked together on deploying liquid cooling across its data centers which has cut the cooling requirements in half.
Finally, Danfoss is retiring its old IT assets through the HPE Asset Upcycling Services which helps with decommissioning and refurbishment.
In January 2024, Danfoss revealed that it would provide cooling and heat reuse technology for Google's data centers. As part of that deal, the company will also use Google's artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for customer experience improvements, internal work processes, and to improve productivity across the organization.
