Equinix has launched its BA2 data center in Barcelona, Spain.
Announced in a LinkedIn post, the company said representatives from Colt Technologies Services and the Spanish Data Center Association joined the colo giant at the launch.
Plans for BA2, a new International Business Exchange (IBX) facility, were first announced in February last year.
The IBX offers 3.4MW across 27,150 sq ft (2,522 sqm) and is located adjacent to the company’s existing BA1 site.
BA1 offers more than 16,000 sq ft (1,500 sqm) of colocation space. Both facilities have access to more than 45 network carriers and are both 100 percent powered by renewable energy, said the company.
Equinix currently operates two other IBX facilities, known as MD1 and MD2, in Madrid, alongside one facility in Seville, which were all acquired in 2017 when it bought local operator Itconic from the Carlyle Group for €215 million (then $259m). More facilities are in development in Madrid.
EdgeConneX, Nabiax, AQ Compute, AtlasEdge, and EXA Infrastructure have a presence in Barcelona. The city is also home to the 2Africa and Medloop cables, with the Medusa subsea cable system set to land in 2025.
