Fern Trading Limited has outlined plans to combine its four fiber business units into one new entity.

The UK-based company, which also specializes in solar energy, has confirmed that it is consolidating Jurassic Fibre, Swish Fibre, Giganet, and AllPoints Fibre into a single Fibre-To-The-Premises (FTTP) company.

According to the firm, the four businesses will combine their regional operations to create a national wholesale full fiber network at some point during this year.

Fern hasn't revealed the name of the new entity as of yet.

"In the coming years, the UK fiber market is going to experience exponential change, driven by the massive need to ensure homes and businesses in every part of the UK have access to a fast and fairly priced internet service," said Fern Trading fiber division chairman John Browett.

"We expect to see continued consolidation within the industry, and by combining these successful businesses now, we will be in a fantastic position to take advantage of those market opportunities as they unfold. Our ambitions have always been high, but today represents the start of even bolder aspirations for our place in the UK fiber sector."

Fern said that its combined fiber businesses had passed 150,000 homes with its FTTP service as of June 2022.

During its financials for last year, the division reported an EBITDA loss of £55.4 million ($67m), which the company said was in line with expectations, and a reflection of its early development of the division.

Fern's investment into full fiber networks is a fairly recent move, with Jurassic Fibre and Swish Fibre launching in 2018 as part of a £250 million ($303m) investment from the company, while Giganet formally launched in 2020. AllPoints Fibre is the youngest of the four, launching in 2021.

Jurassic Fibre recently told DCD that it's been able to navigate some of the supply chain issues that the fiber industry faced last year.
