Critical infrastructure management specialist FNT and industrial automation giant ABB have announced a partnership aimed at better integrating their software - FNT Command and Decathlon for Data Centers.

The two businesses says say that the combination of their data center infrastructure management (DCIM) toolsets creates one comprehensive solution, with FNT’s workflow tools complementing ABB’s secure, real-time power and environmental monitoring and alarming, ensuring that up-to-the-second data is always in the hands of those who need it.

Relative strengths

FNT has been developing the Command software suite since 1994. The latest version, Command 10, was launched in July 2015, offering expanded visualization capabilities, redesigned search functionality and FNT Command Mobile - a version designed specifically for smartphones and tablets.

Command is able to document and manage physical IT assets, building infrastructure, telecommunications and cable networks – all through a single interface.

Meanwhile ABB’s Decathlon is an operations management software suite originally developed for automated industrial plants, and later adopted for data centers. It is based on the System 800xA process control platform, and able to collect and track data from mechanical, electrical and IT systems.

By sharing data sets, the two DCIM systems aim to reduce time spent locating assets and improve collaboration between IT and facilities staff.

“Our customers will benefit from the joint, integrated solutions which pave the way to the industrial data center of the future,” said Nikolaus Albrecht, CEO of FNT. “FNT and ABB are leaders in their sectors. We are looking forward to working together with ABB on joint projects and to developing new ideas. Driven by the innovative strength and global footprint of our two companies, we are well positioned to boost innovation and success for our customers around the globe.”
