Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn will collaborate with Californian semiconductor company Spectra7 to bring several new active copper data center interconnect products to market.

The products are currently available to tier one data center original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for sampling.

“Spectra7 is a key player in the active copper cable market and Foxconn Interconnect Technology has confidently adopted Spectra7 solutions as a fundamental component of our active cable development,” Yan Margulis, VP of sales and marketing at Foxconn, said.

Spectra7 CEO Raouf Halim added: “We’re extremely proud to be working closely with such a major interconnect supplier to the data center market.

“The joint collaboration with Foxconn Interconnect Technology is another major milestone in the validation of our data center technology.”

The company claims that its Spectra7 GaugeChanger Plus silicon allows copper cables to have an interconnect length up to three times that of passive copper cables.

These active copper cables (ACCs) also lower power consumption by approximately 80 percent, the company said.
