The company did not disclose the cause of the issues.

Gmail users reported that their email service said that "the server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request," and proffered a 502 error.

Wider Google Cloud services were not impacted, and the cloud service's status page does not show any issues.

The company invests heavily in redundancy to avoid outages, but still experiences regular issues. Last year, Google Search was hit by an outage, as was Google Maps.

Google Cloud problems were also linked to Spotify and Discord outages, while a UK heatwave caused an outage at one of Google's UK data centers.
