The development, known as ‘Project Pluto,’ would see two three-story data centers established. The buildings would offer 126MW across 37,090 sqm (including 5,5010 sqm of office). The company aims to invest AU$2.5 billion in the project.

A Goodman Group spokesperson told iTnews the development would target “the short-term needs of cloud operators and new market entrants.”

The site is currently occupied by Castrol. The 7.1-hectare property was acquired from BP Australia in 2021 for $40.2 million with a two-year leaseback to Castrol. It was originally built as Castrol’s headquarters back in the 1960s.

Goodman had previously been planning to develop three warehouse buildings on the site but has now opted to swap for data center development.

Goodman is an integrated property group with operations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, the UK, and the Americas. In the past 15 years, Goodman has delivered 600MW of powered sites and powered shell projects.

According to Goodman's CEO, as of November 2023, the company had 3.7GW of secured or potential power within its portfolio.

The company is aiming to redevelop the former ABC television studios on Sydney’s North Shore into an 80MW data center.

In April 2023, the company announced plans for a 100MW powered shell in Frankfurt, Germany. The company recently announced plans to expand its data center footprint in Japan and that it had broken ground on a new facility in Hong Kong.
