Google Fiber has announced plans to expand its fiber service to Idaho after revealing the service is coming to Pocatello.

In a statement, Google Fiber said it is planning to begin deploying the service this year, ahead of connecting the first customers in the city midway through 2024.

Further details on the deployment are unknown, but Google Fiber offer 1 Gig and 2 Gig fiber services for its customers and 5 Gig in some cities.

"We all know great things come from the ground in Idaho, and we’re looking forward to putting something pretty special in the ground there, too," said Silvia Castro, UT & ID government and community affairs manager.

Pocatello is the largest city in Bannock County, with a population of around 89,000, and is one of many cities across the US that is set to receive Google Fiber's services including Chandler, Arizona; Lakewood and Westminster, both of Colorado; Council Bluffs and Des Moines of Iowa; and Omaha, Nebraska.

The company also operates in a number of other states including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas/Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

This announcement comes a couple of months after Google Fiber launched its 5 Gig fiber service across certain US markets, first launching in Kansas City, West Des Moines, and all Utah cities. Google Fiber said the service will be expanded to other cities across the US later this year.

Google Fiber officially launched in 2010, but the service first went live in Kansas City in 2012.
