Google Fiber has been given the go-ahead to provide its broadband services in Nevada.

In a blog post, the company, which is also known as GFiber, said the Clark County Commission approved a franchise agreement for it to provide Internet in the state.

"With this announcement, we have active projects underway in all five of the states we set our sights on back in August 2022. Clark County covers much of the Las Vegas metro area, and is just the first of GFiber’s projects in the area," said Ashley Church, west region general manager, Google Fiber.

GFiber noted it has already started work on engineering planning in the county.

Construction is expected to get underway towards the end of year, with plans for the service to live by mid-2025.

Google Fiber also operates in a number of other states including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas/Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington. The company also began the construction of its fiber rollout in Nebraska last year.

Last February, Google Fiber launched its 5 Gig fiber service across certain US markets, first launching in Kansas City, West Des Moines, and all Utah cities. Google Fiber said the service will be expanded to other cities across the US later this year.

Google Fiber officially launched in 2010, but the service first went live in Kansas City in 2012.
