Greenergy Data Centers OÜ has launched its first data center in Estonia.

The first three-story building, opened this week, spans 14,500 square meters (156,000 square feet) in the Saue Parish near Tallinn. At total build-out, the facility will comprise three buildings and 31.5MW of capacity. The company said it has invested around €40 million in the project so far.

"We are opening a whole new sector for Estonia - our neighbors in the Nordic countries have been doing this for a long time, using their renewable energy, engineering skills, and climatic conditions," said Üllar Jaaksoo, the founder of Greenergy Data Center.

First announced in 2015, work began on the facility in February 2020, originally as an MCF Group Estonia OÜ project.

European investment fund the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (3SIIF) announced it had taken a controlling interest in Greenergy in December 2020. At the same time as the funding announcement, Greenergy announced it had acquired MCF Group Estonia OÜ; a company developing a large data center outside Tallinn.

Jaaksoo said the company was planning similar projects in Latvia and Lithuania and has plans for expansion into Central and Eastern Europe.
