Hankyu Hanshin has announced it will begin offering 4G and 5G infrastructure-sharing services for Japan's mobile network operators.

The company, an infrastructure sharing operator, said it will begin providing the services in the north building of Gran Green Osaka, Japan.

The building, located on the former site of the Umeda Freight Station, which lies to the north of JR Osaka Station, is scheduled to open on September 6, 2024.

It will house a hotel, along with core and commercial facilities.

According to Hankyu Hanshin, the service at this property allows each mobile phone carrier's radio equipment to be connected to the shared equipment (repeater, optical transmission line, coaxial transmission line, antenna).

The infrastructure will be built by Hankyu Hanshin, and each carrier's radio waves can be emitted from the shared equipment.

Hankyu Hanshin notes that at the preliminary opening of the building, NTT Docomo, KDDI Corp, SoftBank Corp, and Rakuten Mobile will provide 4G and 5G services.

The telcos will adopt (LTE)/5G (Sub6 band) compatible sharing devices in this property, meaning there's no need to build separate 4G and 5G equipment.

The network-sharing infrastructure rollout will be deployed to other facilities of the Hankyu Hanshin Holdings Group, the company confirmed, including stations and commercial facilities, plus facilities outside the group.
