HGC GlobalCentre Limited (HGCGC), a joint venture between Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Ltd (HTHKH) and Cheung Kong Holdings Ltd, has opened a new data center at Kwai Chung in Hong Kong.

Covering a gross floor area of more than 110,000 sq ft, the new data center was designed according to TIA-942 Tier III-grade standards and has attained ISO 27001 certification for operational security.

It will offer server colocation and disaster recovery services to enterprises and has private rooms or individual cabinets available to meet the differing needs of customer organizations.

Apart from the Kwai Chung facility, HGCGC operates data centers at Wong Chuk Hang, while its sister company Hutchison GlobalCentre runs a data center at Shatin.

By locating data centers in different districts it can provide feeds from different power companies to ensure diversity of power supply.

HGCGC’s two data centers – at Kwai Chung and Wong Chuk Hang – are approximately 20km apart, and can therefore serve as primary and back-up sites, which meets the standard disaster recovery distance requirement.

Both HGCGC’s data centers link to a 100GbE network, enabling customers to interconnect their networks with data centers at high speed.

They also support various types of network connectivity such as Cat-6 UTP and fiber-optic cabling, while dual lead-ins minimize connection failure.

According to Jennifer Tan, HTHKH’s COO, the opening of the Kwai Chung facility will increase the corporation’s total data center capacity by 60% in terms of number of cabinets, while expanding gross floor space by 40%.

“This, coupled with our highly-efficient management, ensures that HGCGC will provide yet more corporate customers with data center services that include server colocation, disaster recovery solutions, IT outsourcing and more – all while boosting our own business growth,” Tan added.
