Construction firm Hourigan has filed to rezone hundreds of acres of land outside Richmond for data center development.
The Henrico Citizen reports the company has submitted a site plan to Henrico County seeking to rezone 622 acres at the I-295/I-64 interchange in Sandston from A-1 Agricultural District to M-1C Light Industrial District.
The development, now known as the White Oak Technology Park 2, could see as many as 13 data centers built on the site.
The new campus is located a few miles away from the original White Oak Technology Park, where Meta and QTS operate facilities.
The rezoning request is set to go before the Henrico Planning Commission on March 14.
Reports that Hourigan was planning a new data center park in Henrico surfaced in December 2023, though details on the number and specifications of data centers planned for the campus weren’t shared. At the time the project was known as the VAH Data Center Campus and was said to span 320 acres at the intersection of Technology Boulevard and Route 60 along East Williamsburg Road at Technology Boulevard.
The site is seemingly the same parcel on which Atlantic Crossing LLC was seeking industrial zoning in 2021. Proposed uses included cold storage, distribution/warehouse, advanced manufacturing, and fleet facilities. The proposals were withdrawn in 2022.
The former “VAH” moniker referenced the three entities involved: Vienna Finance, Atlantic Crossing, and Hourigan.
