Edotco Bangladesh has signed an MoU with Huawei Technologies to construct a telco tower made of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics (FRP).

The deployment of the tower is set to be the first of its kind in Bangladesh.

It's claimed that FRP towers will reduce tower weight by up to 44 percent and increase construction efficiency by up to 75 percent, which is ideal for rooftop sites in the country's densest areas.

Edotco notes that the towers are easier to install and, due to the structure being made of fiberglass, will be able to withstand high voltage without damage.

"Our collaboration represents a remarkable opportunity to enhance Bangladesh's thriving telecom infrastructure and play an instrumental role in realizing our sustainability vision," said Sunil Issac, country managing director of Edotco Bangladesh.

Edotco Bangladesh is a subsidiary of Malaysian-based telco Axiata Group. Edotco is Axiata's dedicated tower unit.

The company owns a portfolio of more than 58,000 towers across South East Asia, and has previously deployed bamboo towers in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

In September, Axiata completed a deal to acquire and lease back 2,710 sites from PLDT’s subsidiaries to its unit in the Philippines.
