The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $100 million loan to improve connectivity in Argentina.

The money will be used to improve digital connectivity infrastructure in remote areas and increase the capacity of the National Data Center.

The program will improve service by funding the purchase and updating of storage and information processing equipment at the National Data Center of state-owned telco Argentine Satellite Solutions Company (ARSAT).

Located in the Benavídez Earth Station outside Buenos Aires, the Tier III certified National Data Center contains four rooms of 365 sqm for a total of 4,500 sqm.

Most of the funds will be used towards the deployment of fiber optics in 258 remote locations. The loan has a 25-year repayment term, a five and a half year grace period.

Established in 1959, the IDB is a leading source of long-term financing for economic, social, and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
