Cloud service provider IndonesianCloud has expanded its cloud operations in Equinix’s partner data center, JK1, in Indonesia.

Built and operated by PT DCI, JK1 is located in the Cibitung Industrial Estate, Jakarta, and provides 3,000 sq m (32,500 square feet) of colocation space.

As part of the partnership, Equinix had provided extensive advisory support to PT DCI in the design and operations of the data center.

Established in 2011, IndonesianCloud is the largest cloud player within the enterprise market in the country with a comprehensive suite of enterprise class cloud services.

Apart from private, dedicated and hybrid clouds - which are deployed and managed to meet domestic Indonesian demands - IndonesianCloud offers IT solutions that include managed services and consulting services.

The new data center deployment with Equinix gives IndonesianCloud greater redundancy as well as a second data centre for failover.

This opens the door to IndonesianCloud to provide high connectivity and premium data centre services to its customers, allowing it to be more nimble and provide disaster recovery services that duplicate its customer processes for business continuity.

According to Gartner, the Indonesian cloud computing market is expected to see double-digit growth rates through 2016.

Part of the reason could be attributed to unprecedented levels of high traffic from multiple streams including social media, rich media content and mobile apps, as well as increasing Internet traffic generated from within Indonesia.

Another factor stimulating demand in the data sector is the emergence of stricter banking and data compliance rules across Indonesia regarding electronic information and transactions.

The new laws state that financial institutions now need to maintain ownership of data transactions and the data within Indonesia, which has resulted in increased demand for local data centers.

“As our customers deal with mission critical and confidential corporate assets and information on a daily basis, we needed to ensure that their data is stored in the most reliable, most secure data center environment possible,” said Neil Cresswell, CEO of IndonesianCloud.

“Equinix enables us to become the only cloud provider in Indonesia that meets these strict requirements.”
