The Taiwanese R&D institution the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Open Compute Project have created a new testing center for the validation of OCP technologies.

The OCP Global Certification Center in Taiwan on Tuesday. It will provide global validation service in order to support OCP Foundation’s vision for open sourced hardware.

The facility is said to offer a unique combination of technology know-how, non-profit status and geographic proximity to “key” vendors in support of the OCP ecosystem worldwide.

The center which has already conducted its first global certification will be a key anchor in promoting the adoption of OCP solutions, the company said.

It will also be “actively engaged” in both technical and policy setting processes within the OCP Compliance and Interoperability (C&I) community.

The Open Compute Project’s chair and president Frank Frankovsky said having the first lab in Asia technology will ensure the quality of custom-designed products is validated to community specifications.

“As data centers around the world continue to adopt OCP platforms, OCP certification labs play an important role by offering a qualification and testing process for open hardware solutions," Frankovsky said.
