Google Cloud has been selected as the official cloud partner for Formula E team Jaguar TCS Racing.

As a result of the partnership, Jaguar TCS will be using Google Cloud's artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technologies both on and off the track during the 2024/25 season.

Jaguar TCS will use real-time captured car performance data taken from the moment the Jaguar I-Type 6 electric race car enters the pit garage. This will enable engineers and drivers to make decisions for the races, as well as give them access to AI-powered suggestions.

James Barclay, managing director of JLR Motorsport and Jagar TCS racing team principal said of the partnership: "It’s fantastic to welcome Google Cloud as our official cloud partner for next season. This collaboration represents a significant step forward for Jaguar TCS Racing as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in electric motorsport.

"Google Cloud’s expertise in AI and cloud technology is unparalleled, and we are eager to integrate their solutions to drive our performance to new heights. With just days until the finale of what has been an incredibly competitive season, we look forward to the journey ahead with Google Cloud."

Tara Brady, president of EMEA at Google Cloud, added: "We are thrilled to partner with Jaguar TCS Racing, a team at the forefront of electric motorsport innovation. This collaboration is a testament to the power of cloud technology and AI in transforming industries while demonstrating "Google Cloud's commitment to driving innovation across the entire automotive sector. We are excited to contribute our expertise to help Jaguar TCS Racing achieve new levels of performance and success on and off the track."

The announcement came shortly before Jaguar TCS secured the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams' World Championship, the team's first world championship win since 1991.

Jaguar TCS has an ongoing partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (which lends the TCS to the racing team's name). Prior to the Google Cloud announcement, the team relied on a TCS-built cloud environment running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). It is unclear if this latest news means an end to the TCS partnership or its use of AWS.

According to Google's most recent quarterly earnings report, cloud and AI have been a major contributor to parent company Alphabet's revenue. The total revenue for the quarter for Google Cloud reached $10.35bn, a 29 percent YoY increase and surpassing analyst predictions.
