Amazon's logistics head John Felton is set to take over as chief financial officer at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Felton will replace current CFO Richard Puccio, who is planning to leave the company. Specific timelines for the handover have not yet been shared.

Felton has been with Amazon since 2004 when he was hired as a senior financial analyst. For the last 12 years, he has worked in the operations team, taking the role of SVP of worldwide operations in July 2022. In total, Felton has held nine roles so far at Amazon. Prior to that, he worked at General Engineering before attending Harvard Business School for his MBA.

In a blog post shared by Amazon on January 18, the company said: "John and his teams have led the successful work to regionalize our US network, both improving our delivery speeds for customers and reducing our cost to serve. He leaves our operations network in a strong place."

“It has been a great run and a time that I will cherish with pride,” Felton wrote in a note to staff. “Good news is that I’m not going far and am excited to share many of the skills I learned from you all in Operations with the AWS team.”

AWS has experienced slowing growth in the last year. The AWS segment sales grew only 12 percent year-over-year, according to results of the quarter that ended September 2023. This matched Q2's growth, but both were less than Q1's 16 percent growth and 2022 Q4's 20 percent. The Q4 results are expected to be shared on February 1.

No reason has been provided for Richard Puccio's exit from the CFO role, and Puccio has yet to comment.
