Kyndryl has been awarded a three-year agreement from Ireland's Bord Gáis Energy to manage the energy company's cloud environment.
The contract is a renewal of an existing agreement and will see Kyndryl help Bord Gáis migrate its entire environment to the cloud.
Over the past three years, as part of its previous contract, Kyndryl has successfully migrated almost half of Bord Gáis' workloads to Microsoft Azure, reportedly without any issues or outages.
Kyndryl will manage Bord Gáis' Microsoft Azure and private cloud environment, as well as providing backup-as-a-service via Azure and on-premise, storage-as-a-service, and compute-as-a-service.
Bord Gáis hopes the agreement will allow it to reduce its data center space and thus lower CO2 emissions. The energy company has a goal of reaching net zero by 2045.

The forthcoming migrations to Azure and SaaS give Kyndryl the opportunity to offer application-managed and rationalization services for Bord Gáis Energy’s critical production workloads.”
The two companies have also implemented the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate event and alert management. This has been used for two years and has automatically diagnosed 72 percent of all incidents and automatically resolved 40 percent.
Bord Gáis Energy is one of Ireland's leading energy suppliers and service providers. It became part of Centrica in 2014.
Kyndryl was formed in 2021 when IBM spun off its managed services division. The company manages on-premises digital infrastructure and services for more than 4,000 clients, including the majority of Fortune 100 companies, and has operations in more than 60 countries.
Last month, the company won a multi-year deal with Honda Europe to manage the latter's IT infrastructure.
