A carrier hotel data center building is up for sale in Los Angeles, California.
Major Properties is offering the Quinby Building at 650 South Grand Avenue as up for sale. A listing price wasn't included.
Set on 6,580 sq ft (611 sqm), the property totals 75,250 sq ft (6,990 sqm) across 13 stories. The sales brochure suggests the site totals 18MW of capacity.
Built in 1926 by architectural firm Meyer & Holler, the site is described as immediately adjacent and connected to the One Wilshire carrier hotel; having "very heavy power service" and equipped with an in-place Meet-Me Room (MMR) and full building HVAC.
It was reportedly converted to data center use around 1996. Colocation America, USColo (acquired by CoreSite in 2018), Downtown Colo Corporation (since rebranded to Subrigo), Digital Hub, and Xgridcolo have all previously been occupants of the site.
The sales brochure suggests at least one data center tenant is still present, but many seem to have exited, however.
According to the Registry, the site was last on the market in 2022. At that time, the property was last purchased in 2012 by an entity associated with The Grand Quinby Building LLC.
At the time the property was 70 percent occupied, with many tenants on month-to-month leases.
Though described as a data center opportunity, the current listing notes the site has redevelopment potential for mixed-use, residential, office, or hotel uses.
"The Quinby Building is ideal for a telecommunication hub/data center user, as the building offers 12 full floors above retail and includes very heavy power, full building HVAC, and a Meet-Me Room (MMR); a secure space where different telecommunications carriers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and network operators physically connect their networks to exchange data."
