Google Cloud has appointed Matt Renner as the head of its global sales operation.

He replaces Adaire Fox-Martin, who announced earlier this month that she was leaving the company to take up the role of CEO at colocation data center giant Equinix.

As the new president of the company's global field organization, Renner will be responsible for all of the cloud platform’s go-to-market teams, including sales, professional services, partners, and customer success.

According to Google, Renner’s team works “in lockstep” with its product and engineering teams, to “help businesses of all sizes across industries and geographies transform in the cloud, powered by artificial intelligence.”

Renner boasts more than 25 years of experience in the tech industry, and has been at Google for a year, having joined as the company’s president of North America and global startups, as well as holding the role of chief operating officer for Google Cloud go-to-market.

Before joining Google Cloud, he was President of the US Enterprise business at Microsoft. He also had a brief spell at Salesforce, but has spent the majority of his career to date at Oracle, where he worked for 20 years ascending to the role of senior vice president for sales in the company’s business intelligence and enterprise performance management division.

His arrival marks the second change at the top of Google Cloud’s sales operation in less than 18 months. In the same week as Fox-Martin's departure, Google Cloud's VP of finance announced that they would move to CoreWeave and become the company's CFO.
