Microsoft has acquired 16 acres of land in Pune’s Hindjewadi region for the development of a data center.
First reported by Business Standard, the tech giant acquired the parcel for Rs 519.72 crore ($62m).
The land was acquired from Indo Global Infotech City LLP.
The specific location has not been disclosed, nor have other details of the purchase.
Microsoft will use this land to expand its existing presence in Pune. It currently operates two data centers in the city.
Microsoft’s presence in India includes three cloud regions, in Pune (Central India), Chennai (South India), and Mumbai (West India); all opened in 2015. The company has since delisted its Mumbai region; it may have been converted into a reserved access region.
The company is planning another region in Hyderabad, after acquiring 48-acres of land earlier this year.
Microsoft has also committed to investing in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan in the last few months, and has invested $1.5 billion in UAE-based AI firm G42.
STT GDC, Nxtra, Iron Mountain, and Tata Communications all have a presence in Pune.
