Australian data center company NextDC has gained planning consent from the Melbourne City Council to build its M3 data center.
The 150MW data center sits on 100,000 square meters (1,076,400 sq ft) of land, and will be targeted at hyperscale customers.
The facility is located in West Footscray, about 10km west of Melbourne’s Central Business District.
Work has already begun on the first 13.5MW phase, with completion planned for the first half of 2023.
The company sought new planning consent after expanding the scope of the M3 data center, recently acquiring 40,000 sq m (430,500 sq ft) of land for around AU$24 million (US$17.67m).
“The upgraded development of this new hyperscale technology campus in Melbourne is driven by ongoing customer demand for premium quality data center infrastructure," NextDC CEO Craig Scroggie said.
“Nextdc looks forward to being able to offer our customers multiple availability zone solutions across our existing M1 Port Melbourne, M2 Tullamarine, as well as this new M3 hyperscale campus in West Footscray.”
