Nokia notes that its NFS unit will deliver private cellular, Edge computing, and other critical connected solutions to the federal government.

The vendor adds that it will aim to meet the needs of the federal government by using IP routing, optical networking, microwave, 5G, and private networks.

“The US government faces complex communications challenges in today’s interconnected world," said Mike Loomis, president of Nokia Federal Solutions.

"With Nokia Federal Solutions, we are strengthening our commitment to support the US government by investing in a dedicated entity to provide the technology, expertise, and local presence needed to help US federal agencies achieve their mission goals. We are investing to become the US Government's trusted partner for 5G mission-ready solutions.”

Nokia president of mobile networks Tommi Uitto said the launch of NFS builds on the vendor's recent acquisition of Fenix Group.

Nokia struck a deal in December to acquire Fenix Group, a company that provides secure tactical private wireless solutions for defense.
