Finnish vendor Nokia has paired with iSat Africa to bolster rural connectivity in Liberia.

The deployment will take three years and cover approximately 200 sites across rural parts of the country.

iSat specializes in broadcasting & rural connectivity, fixed & mobile satellite solutions, and MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) in Africa and Middle East.

In Africa, the company's Point of Presence (PoP) is integrated with fiber and satellite services in more than 30 countries across Africa.

Nokia will provide its AirScale radio portfolio to support the rollout, which includes Massive MIMO radios, remote radio heads, and base stations. The company will also provide its MantaRay Network Management for iSAT to use.

"Our Rural Connect solution ensures robust coverage in remote areas, enabling voice and data services for communities that have been historically underserved," said Osama Said, customer team head of West Africa and enterprise at Nokia.

"This partnership represents a significant step toward reducing the digital divide and fostering socio-economic development.”

The partnership aims to push socio-economic development in Liberia’s remote areas.

iSat Africa signed a distribution deal with Low Earth Orbit satellite firm OneWeb last year to provide broadband connectivity throughout the Central, Western, and Eastern Africa markets.
