NTT has acquired two office buildings in Chicago, Illinois, and plans to replace them with data centers.
Citing DuPage County property records, CoStar reports that NTT recently paid more than $27 million for two office buildings west of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
The company reportedly plans to demolish the buildings - on a 12-acre site at 1200 and 1250 N. Arlington Heights Road in Itasca - to develop data centers.
The five-story office building at 1250 is vacant and the four-story building at 1200 is less than 40 percent leased.
The company declined to comment to CoStar.
The acquired site is adjacent to NTT’s existing CH1 data center site in Chicago.
Launched in 2021, the two-story CH1 provides 36MW across 126,000 sq ft (11,705 sqm), and is the first of two planned data centers on the 72MW campus. NTT acquired the site in 2018 through its RagingWire subsidiary.
CoStar noted that NTT has now paid a total of around $64 million to Hamilton Partners for more than 46 acres at the Itasca site in a series of deals between 2017 and this year.
“We have a good relationship with them and it’s working out well for the park,” Patrick McKillen, a partner at the local development firm, told CoStar. “From our standpoint, we’re probably not going to develop another office building for a while.”
