Talal bin Said Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, said: “We attach great importance to Dhofar Governorate due to its strategic location for global technology investments.

"Over the past years, we have worked on a number of strategic projects and initiatives that have attracted global investments of around $150 million, such as establishing the SN1 Data Center in partnership with Equinix, attracting major global content companies to build their own large data centers in the region, in addition to landing 10 submarine cables in Salalah next year, making it the second most connected city in the Middle East.”

Founded in 1970, Omantel is majority owned by Oman Investment Authority (OIA), a wholly-owned investment arm of the Omani government. It has investments in more than 20 subsea cable and five landing points in the country.

In 2022, Equinix said it was building a data center in Salalah in partnership with Omantel, following a similar partnership for a project in Muscat. The new facility, known as SN1, is not yet listed as live on Equinix’s website.

Oreedoo is also developing a data center in Salalah, located on Oman's south coast.
