Oracle has announced plans for a second Italian cloud region in partnership with Telecom Italia (TIM).
Announced this week, TIM will be the host partner for Oracle's second planned cloud region in Italy, located in Turin at the telco’s data center. Timelines for launch weren’t disclosed.
TIM Enterprise will also integrate Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) into its portfolio, offering services to its public and private sector customers.
As part of the collaboration, TIM will also use OCI to migrate some of the group's internal applications to the cloud. Further migration details weren’t shared.

"By adding OCI to its robust cloud service offerings, TIM Enterprise will be able to provide a cloud platform used by customers all over the world to run their most mission-critical workloads in the cloud."
He continued: "With the upcoming second cloud region in Italy, we are reaffirming our commitment to helping Italian organizations of all sizes and industries accelerate the adoption of AI and other innovative technologies."
Oracle launched its first Italian region in Milan in late 2021. The company usually leases space rather than building its own dedicated facilities.

Amazon Web Services launched its Milan cloud region in 2020, with Google’s Milan region launching in 2022 in partnership with TIM (a second Italian GCP region has since launched in Turin). Microsoft’s first Italian region, again in Milan, launched last year.
Oracle has partnered with a number of telcos to host its OCI regions. The company has previously teamed up with the likes of Claro, Telmex, and Telefónica to host its cloud regions in the telcos’ data centers in Spain, Colombia, and Mexico.
