Oracle is looking to expand its footprint in the Nuevo León area of Mexico.

In a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, and recorded during a visit to Austin, Texas, Nuevo León state governor Samuel Garcia shared Oracle's intention to invest and build a data center in the area.

First reported by El Universal, details about the investment are scant, such as the value of the investment, or the specific location of the data center. DCD has reached out for further information.

In the video, Garcia said that the cloud region is hoped to "enhance Nuevo León’s national leadership in technology, data and artificial intelligence (AI)."

Garcia added: “We are very pleased that Oracle, which is here in Austin, very close to this golden triangle between Monterrey, Dallas, and Houston, whose center is Austin, can take advantage of this region and help Nuevo León to continue being number one, not only in employment, not only in business creation, but also number one in technology, data, clouds, microchips, everything that has to do with artificial intelligence is what Oracle will offer very soon to Nuevo León.”

Oracle's public sector sales director Fernando Irure added: "Having a cloud region in a city is very relevant at a technological and global level. We are sure that it will greatly help the technological development of the state.”

Garcia also met with executives from Silicon Labs while in Austin, a semiconductor and technology company specializing in integrated circuits, microcontrollers, and wireless communication technologies. Garcia noted that he went there "to explore ways to bring this industry to Nuevo León."

In September 2023, Oracle launched a cloud region in Mexico located in Monterrey, which lies with the Nuevo León state.

That cloud region, its second in the country, has been developed in partnership with the data center division of local telco Teléfonos de México (Telmex-Triara).

Oracle launched its first Mexican cloud region in Querétaro in June 2022. Plans for a second Mexican region came to light in September 2022 after América Móvil-owned Telmex announced its Triara unit would be the host partner for another region in the country.
