OVHcloud has bought a French platform as a service player, ForePaaS.

Founded in 2015, ForePaaS supports machine learning and analytics projects on its platform. Its 23 staff will join OVHcloud.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

OVHcloud, the French public cloud provider, has been bolstering its cloud services of late, with multiple announcements about object storage and bare metal servers, and the company says that the ForePaaS staff will enrich its PaaS offerings.

Based in France, ForePaaS has an international customer base, which includes Klépierre and Gefco in Europe and the Mitsubishi Research Institute in Asia.

"This acquisition of technology bricks and skills will allow us to serve an increasing breadth of use cases for our clients who are looking for agile solutions to facilitate their adoption of the cloud and give them full control over the lifecycle of their data," said Thierry Souche, CTO of OVHcloud.

OVHcloud is still awaiting a class action from customers demanding better compensation for losses caused by the fire which destroyed OVHcloud's SBG2 data center in Strasbourg in March 2021. Since the fire, OVHcloud has floated on the French stock market, and reported increased sales. However, last week, the company issued a financial report which showed the fire has hurt its figures.

Most troublingly, after more than a year, the company has still not published any full explanation of the fire. It blames the delay on insurance companies and official bodies - but at least one official body, the Bas-Rhin fire service, has issued a report which apparently found serious faults in the SBG2 data center.
