European operator Portus Data Centers is developing a new data center in Hamburg, Germany.

The company announced plans for a new data center at the IPHH Internet Port Hamburg Wendenstrasse campus.

Construction work on phase 1 of IPHH4 will begin in the first quarter of 2025 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The facilities will have a total IT load of 12.8MW across 6,380 sqm - comprising two 6.4MW, 3,190 sqm buildings - on land adjacent to the existing IPHH3 data center.

Designed to offer a PUE of 1.2, liquid cooling will be available for high-density workloads.

“With the benefit of significant investment by Arcus under the Portus Data Centers umbrella, I am excited to see the accelerated transformation and expansion of the IPHH operation. IPHH4 will be fully integrated into the virtual campus of IPHH2 and IPHH3 and therefore the ideal interconnect location in Hamburg. With around 50 carriers and network operators, just a standard cross-connect away, IPHH4 will be a major and highly accessible interconnection hub,” said Sascha E. Pollok, CEO of IPHH.

Adriaan Oosthoek, chairman of Portus Data Centers, added: “The rapid expansion of IPHH is testament to our mission to establish Portus Data Centers as a major regional force in Germany and adjacent markets. Our buy-and-build regional data center aggregation strategy is focused on ensuring our current and future locations are equipped with the capacity and connectivity required to meet customer demand.”

Arcus Infrastructure Partners acquired Internet Port Hamburg (IPHH) in December – via its European Infrastructure Fund 3 SCSp (AEIF3) – rolling it into the newly formed Portus alongside previous investments EDH in Luxembourg, and Portus Data Centers Munich (formerly SDC SpaceNet DataCenter).

Launched in 1996, IPHH operates two data centers in the east of Hamburg. Launched in 2009 (at Wendenstrasse 408) and 2019 (Wendenstrasse 251), the facilities currently offer 2.4MW of sellable IT power capacity across 1,600 sqm (17,220 sq ft).

Portus acquired the land for the IPHH4 data center in January.
