Colocation provider Quality Technology Services has hired a new CTO, who will lead all aspects of its data center technology and development of the product portfolio.

Simon Tusha comes to QTS from Google, where he worked on the company's global data center location strategy, being a sole negotiator for data center contracts.

At QTS, Tusha takes on 3.5 million square feet of data center space the company currently operates. He will primarily focus on design, development and construction of all data center projects.

Tusha's "leadership will play a major role in QTS's strategic growth plans as we continue into our next phase of development," QTS President Mark Waddington said in a statement.

"As we build out our facilities and launch new projects like our recent Richmond acquisition, Simon will provide the strategic insight necessary to ensure that QTS is the leading provider in the data center market in the coming years."

The company recently won a 210 acre property in Richmond, Va., through a bankruptcy auction.

The auction was a sale of assets of the troubled memory-chip manufacturer Qimonda, whose large campus, with more than 200,000 square feet of raised floor already built out, was sold to QTS for only $12 ml., a deal QTS considered to be somewhat of a miracle.

Before starting at Google, Tusha worked at the data center design, construction and management company MCE, which he co-founded.

The company provided services for core JPMorgan Chase data centers.
