Energy management vendor RMD Power and Cooling has signed a three-year agreement to license the Hive Datacentres trademark, meaning it can expand its design and consultancy services.

According to RMD it will now manage every step of the design and building process – from initial survey to handover and ongoing maintenance.

Hive Datacentres’s new range of services now includes feasibility studies, project management, data center design, audits and risks assessment.

Hive is not tied to any data center equipment supplier and RMD will be the sole licensee to operate under the Hive Datacentres name.

RMD will continue to work with subcontractors but plans to invest internally in training its own staff.

RMD’s managing director Gavin Maxwell is predicting a substantial increase in turnover across the lifespan of the deal.

“The Hive Datacentres trademark is a logical coming together of two excellent brands and I have no doubt it will prove fruitful,” Maxwell said.

“The deal enables us to be much more flexible about the kinds of contracts we tender for and we will be able to lead projects where previously we could only have been involved as a subcontractor. This is a very positive step for us as a company.”

RMD, which was founded in 1932 as a wholesale electrical shop in Glasgow, now runs data center services for the public and private sectors.

Clients include Amazon, Cairn Energy, HM Prison Service, the NHS and National Air Traffic Services.
