SaskTel has expanded its 5G coverage to more than 50 cell sites in Saskatchewan, Canada.

In an announcement, SaskTel revealed the coverage boost has been deployed to rural and indigenous communities, and several highway corridors in the province.

SaskTel, which serves more than 1.4 million customers across Saskatchewan, has rolled out 5G sites to North Grove – Buffalo Pound, La Ronge, Red Earth Cree Nation, plus 50 more cell sites that serve rural and Indigenous communities.

"The expansion of SaskTel's 5G network is paving the way for further growth in Saskatchewan, allowing families, businesses, and communities to connect faster and more reliably than ever before,” said Dustin Duncan, the minister responsible for SaskTel.

“The speed and power of SaskTel’s 5G network will create additional opportunities in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture, keeping Saskatchewan communities strong and vibrant.”

SaskTel claims that its 5G network can provide data speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second.

Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO added: "Our evolving network is tailored for the future, designed to support an ever-increasing number of wireless devices, and deliver hyper-fast speeds that will allow our customers to connect to their world."

SaskTel has committed to invest more than C$440 million (US$324m) of capital throughout Saskatchewan in 2024/25 and more than C$2 billion (US$1.47bn) over the next five years.
