Precision timing company SiTime Corporation has launched its Chorus family of clock generators for AI data center applications.

According to the company, its new MEMS (micro-electromechanical system)-based clock-system-on-a-chip (ClkSoC) offerings provide a 10X higher performance when compared to standalone oscillators and clocks.

SiTime offers oscillator, clock, and resonator products to help devices – including those inside data centers and wireless networks – keep time. The company’s main offerings are silicon MEMS-based programmable precision timing chip components.

The new Chorus family combines the clock, oscillator, and resonator technologies offered by SiTime in an integrated chip, which the company said simplifies the system clock architecture and accelerates design time by up to six weeks.

The products are also up to half the size of traditional oscillators, have a reduced power consumption and a programable frequency range from 1MHz to 700MHz.

In a statement, SiTime said its integrated MEMS resonator addresses the limitations of legacy clock generators and helps to eliminate common issues such as noise and impedance matching.

“AI is driving tremendous needs for higher data throughput in data centers and lower power consumption, and SiTime is uniquely positioned to help address these issues,” said Piyush Sevalia, executive vice president of marketing at SiTime. “Before Chorus, hardware designers had to use discrete product types, such as clocks, oscillators, and resonators, which resulted in performance compromises.

“Chorus delivers integrated clock generators to solve these problems and is yet another example of how we are transforming the timing market with our unique approach.”

In November 2023, SiTime entered into an exclusive agreement with Aura Semiconductor to acquire its clock products and license all of its clock IP. The $148 million deal saw SiTime hold exclusive, perpetual, and irrevocable rights to sell existing and new products based on Aura’s IP and clocking portfolio.

The company said the acquisition and new Chorus family of products builds on its strategy “to offer a complete portfolio of highly differentiated solutions.”
