Social media and local press report the creature was found on May 8 within a rack in the rectory building at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). The animal may have been trying to warm itself using heat from the IT hardware.

The sloth was returned to the surrounding forest by a member of the university's security team.

“If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it; I see it and continue in disbelief,” Valdiney V. Gouveia, president of the Federal University of Paraíba, posted on Instagram. “Laziness entered the Infrastructure Superintendency (UFPB) building and housed himself in computer equipment. Rescued, she is back in the woods”

UFPB is a public university whose main campus is located in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba.

While animals causing outages can be an issue when they impact power and fiber lines, it's rare for such creatures to be in the data halls themselves. However, cats once filled a data center with hair and poop. Another time, a deer broke into one as it was being decommissioned.
