Portugal's Start Campus has signed a €20 million ($22.3m) deal with Siemens Energy for transformers.

The company plans to build a 1.2GW Sines DC campus, starting with SIN01 for Q4 2024, which will also use Siemens equipment.

The new deal covers the campus' SIN02-06 buildings, with SIN02 set to grow to 180MW after launching in 2026.

"Placing this order with Siemens Energy highlights our unwavering commitment to meet the growing demands of our customers and deliver on our promises while setting new industry standards," said Rob Dunn, Start Campus CEO.

"We deeply value Siemens Energy’s support in powering SIN01 and are pleased to strengthen this successful partnership as we advance the campus."

Mark Pilling, VP of grid solutions for Europe and Africa at Siemens Energy, said: “Together with Start Campus, we are committed to advancing the development of critical digital infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of the data center industry and sets new benchmarks at large scale.”

The deal comes a month after the company appointed Dunn as its new permanent CEO and the business looks to move on from a corruption scandal that saw the country’s prime minister ousted and its previous CEO arrested.
