Swiss mobile operator Sunrise has confirmed it will switch off its 3G network by mid-2025.
The spectrum from the 3G network will be repurposed toward its 5G service.
Existing 3G spectrum in the 900MHz band will be redistributed for 5G, Sunrise said.
Sunrise has already retired its 2G network, doing so in January, and says its 3G network accounts for less than one percent of its mobile data usage.
Acquired by Liberty Global in 2020, the company has more than 2.7 million mobile customers, plus 1.5 million fixed-line customers.
A number of mobile operators have switched off, or are in the process of switching off their 3G networks.
Last week, Slovak Telecom confirmed the retirement of its 3G network.
Elsewhere, Telia Finland kicked off its 3G network switch-off earlier this year, while its Danish and Lithuanian businesses have already retired their respective 3G networks.
In the UK, EE confirmed it will begin its 3G switch-off in January 2024, while Virgin Media O2 will switch off its 3G network in 2025.
