T-Mobile has launched an expansion to its flagship data center in Prague, Czech Republic.
The new wing at the DC7 facility features four new data halls, offering 1,400 sqm (15,070 sq ft) of IT space across a total area of 3,500 sqm (37,675 sq ft).
The company said the expansion has an additional 10MW of power capacity, of which 6MW will be used for IT.
The operator is set to deploy a Private 5G network within the data center, making DC7 a “unique test lab for T-Mobile” and is currently installing a photovoltaic power plant directly on the premises of the new facility.
“In the Czech Republic, 5G technology still represents the most modern way for connected devices to communicate with each other. Thanks to effective data collection directly in the data center, we will be able to control the temperature even better, predict the behavior of the environment and, in the future, replace traditional wired or optical infrastructures," said Vladan Pekovič, CTIO T-Mobile Czech Republic.
He added that the 5G network will allow the operator to test new products and services.
The DC7 facility was first constructed in 2017 and opened in 2018. Plans for the expansion were announced in May last year.
Existing clients at the facility reportedly include Bank iD, the Czech Land Survey and Cadastral Office, Raiffeisenbank, and the Czech Export Bank.
As well as three data centers in Prague, the operator also has facilities in Brno and Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
