T-Mobile has struck a deal to become the mobility partner for Delta Air Lines.

As part of the deal, Delta will move more than 60,000 lines onto the US carrier, while T-Mobile will deploy its 5G network at Delta's Atlanta headquarters.

As part of the tie-up, Delta will provide its frontline teams with 5G smartphones, tablets, and ruggedized devices.

Flight attendants, airport customer service agents, and ground crews will use T-Mobile's 5G network to provide technical support for pre-flight and post-flight procedures, aircraft servicing, catering, baggage handling, and maintenance.

“Our collaboration with T-Mobile is unlocking how we serve customers at each step of their journey and ensuring our people have all the information they need at their fingertips," said Ranjan Goswami, SVP of customer experience design, Delta Air Lines.

T-Mobile will also deploy a hybrid 5G network at Delta's headquarters for the airline carrier's workforce.

According to T-Mobile, this network will "offer comprehensive 5G coverage indoors and outdoors to support fast and reliable connectivity vital for operations across the entire Delta campus, including hangars and technical operations."

Last year, Delta selected Hughes Network Systems to provide passenger WiFi on more than 400 Boeing 717s and regional jets serving North America.
