Australian telco Telstra and Telkom Indonesia have formed a joint venture to sell network services in Indonesia.

Services on offer will include business continuity, managed data network services, security services, unified communications and cloud solutions including IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service).

The venture brings together two of the region’s leading telecommunication and enterprise service providers, boasted Telstra’s global enterprise and services group executive Brendon Riley: "The partnership is an important step in Telstra’s Asia strategy and aligns with our aim to build new growth businesses that leverage the strengths of our unique NAS [network application and services]
capabilities.  We are excited to build a new market of enterprise solutions with Telkom”.

The partnership will offer an integrated end-to-end service, bundled with Telkom’s connectivity, and sold through both Telkom’s and Telstra’s enterprise sales teams. The plan is to use the local expertise, brand and service capabilities of Telkom Indonesia.

A Telstra spokesperson said this is a major part of its expansion in Asia, and expects the joint venture to be a market leader in Indonesia, which has a population of 240 million, and fast growing sectors in mining, oil and gas, manufacturing and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods), transport and aviation and finance.

“The joint venture gives us the opportunity to accelerate market entry to claim leadership and penetrate the Indonesian market more strongly with an Indonesian partner than through a go-it-alone approach,” said the spokesperson. “We expect to derive significant benefit from partnering with Telkom as the incumbent with approximately 60% share of the enterprise market and with its large network in Indonesia.”

The partnership is expected to begin serving customers in 2015.
