Verizon has kicked off construction of a new cell tower at Fort Bliss Army Post in El Paso, Texas.

The tower, which will be constructed by Boldyn Networks, will provide connectivity to service military personnel in Texas and New Mexico. The total investment in the project is $1 million.

Verizon will work with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Boldyn Networks to deploy 10 macro towers, enabling more robust coverage across the base.

“Verizon supports our military partners through a number of innovative products and services, from 5G deployments, including private 5G, to improved enterprise infrastructure,” said Martin Mallady, associate director for Verizon’s DoD business.

“At the core, our work with the US Department of Defense focuses on improving operational capabilities and also the quality of life for the soldiers and families living on military installations. Once completed, this new cellular tower on Fort Bliss will do just that.”

Last month, the operator won a similar contract to provide 5G coverage via a newly constructed cell tower, nicknamed the “Dragon Tower,” as part of a $1 million project to support the US Army Garrison Hawaii’s Helemano Military Reservation (HMR).

In December, Verizon Public Sector (VPS) was awarded a $15 million task order with Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) through the federal government’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract vehicle.

Under the contract, Verizon will deliver voice and data services at domestic and international locations for the US Navy.

The operator was also selected by the US Department of Defense to install and maintain a 5G private network inside an aircraft maintenance hangar at the joint military base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) back in 2022, with the contract worth $11.5 million.
