Vodafone Germany has announced plans to install solar panels across all of its suitable mobile phone stations and regional data centers on its fixed network.

By the end of 2025, the telco said it will install panels capable of generating the equivalent energy per year to charge a small electric car almost 28,000 times and drive around 6 million km.

Vodafone Germany is working with solar power specialist Sonnenkraft to equip an initial 86 network locations with photovoltaic panels, each with an output of 398kWp.

The company added that the mobile and landline stations can be operated completely independently at times by feeding in solar energy, depending on location, time of year, and weather.

The number of projects is set to double to around 200 locations by the end of this financial year.

Vodafone said it is part of its plan to increase the share of self-produced energy through solar power and will support the company’s aim of becoming CO2e-neutral by 2025.

Sonnenkraft is an Austrian-based solar power specialist. The company was founded in 1993 and produces heat, water, and electricity systems in addition to thermal and photovoltaic installations.
