Spanish website Banda Ancha reports that the carrier will switch off the service in Seville, Tenerife city, Vizcaya, Valencia, Coruña city, Santander, and Las Palmas.

The final cities to phase out 3G will be Madrid and Barcelona, towards the end of October.

Vodafone started its 3G shutdown in 2022, and the network was initially due to be retired by the end of last year.

However, due to a lack of support for VoLTE calls in its low-cost MVNO brand Lowi, it meant Vodafone had to delay the switch off.

Telefónica-owned Movistar is set to switch off its 3G network in Spain in 2025, while Orange also plans to switch off its 3G network next year.

Telcos across the world are switching off their 3G networks in order to free up spectrum for their 4G and 5G networks.

In the UK, both Vodafone and EE have retired their 3G networks this year, while Australian carriers Telstra and Optus have pushed back their 3G shutdown plans to October 28, 2024.
